For a range of reasons and as a practice in universal joy, we might try giving ourselves some touch. We might scratch up and down an arm, stretch a leg against a wall or rotate an ankle up in the air, wake our bodies up with pats along the thighs and all the way up to the shoulders, give a hand and a wrist a deeper massage, cradle or support an elbow, hug our chest or stomach in tight, run fingers through our own hair, pinch our skin lightly, groom ourselves in a variety of ways, and more. These are all moments of self-touch that we may be able to slow down and enjoy more fully by giving the moment more of our attention and more open, self-compassionate, and self-compersionate curiosity. We may also use implements — a back roller, a head scratcher, a stretching bungie, some massage or coconut oil, electronic massagers and vibrators. Self-touch can also be sensual and sexual, as well as emotional and sublime. Carving out longer stretches of time to listen to a guided meditation can support dropping in more fully to an experience of self-sensation and self-pleasure. Share a tip or trick you've learned about enjoying self-touch.
